Old Fashioned
Ingredients:
2 oz bourbon or rye whiskey
1 sugar cube or 1/2 oz simple syrup
2 dashes Angostura bitters
Orange twist, for garnish
Optional: ice cube or sphere
Instructions:
Muddle: Place the sugar cube (or simple syrup) in an Old Fashioned glass. Add the Angostura bitters directly onto the sugar cube. Gently muddle the sugar cube with the bitters until it is dissolved. If using simple syrup, skip this step.
Add Ice (Optional): If desired, add an ice cube or sphere to the glass.
Pour: Pour the bourbon or rye whiskey over the sugar and ice.
Stir: Stir the mixture gently to combine the ingredients and chill the drink.
Garnish: Express the oils from the orange twist over the drink by holding it over the glass and giving it a twist. Drop the twist into the glass as a garnish. Optionally, you can also garnish with a cherry.
Serve and Enjoy: Sip slowly and savor the rich flavors of the whiskey, complemented by the subtle sweetness of the sugar and the aromatic notes of the bitters and orange twist.
The Old Fashioned is a timeless and sophisticated cocktail that highlights the character of the whiskey.
